In 1992, just after graduating from high school Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology at Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage in Alaska. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999, when she began working on the vessel F/V Sunset. This 65' schooner that was converted into the role of a salmon tender is owned by Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard married Aritan in 1999. The pair have come together to fight for their business. Both are advocates of saving and maximizing the use of sustainable resources within the fishing industry. Otolith, a wholesale direct seafood distributor was opened on the 7th of July 2007 Bella Bossard (age three), Andre Bossard (1 year old) and Bossard's mother. Bossard had returned to Philadelphia after the birth of her two children. The name of the company is a loving recall of her extensive expertise in fish biology as well as her husband's extensive involvement to the industry of seafood, often keeping them from each other for 5 months or longer when they are focused on their financial and environmental goals which reflect both their independence and dedication to the community in which they reside. Bossard along with Isabella and Andre (ages 12, 10 respectively) are back each year, starting in July 2016, to Southeast Alaska for the summer catch from wild salmon. Following two years of fishing with hooks along with lines and a 42-foot salmon trolling machine they have joined Aritan and then sold to local seafood processors. Amanda Bossard was hired as an anchor on News 12 / MMJ News 12 Anchor/MMJ and News 12 Brooklyn in November 2015.
